Inspiration Board: February 2021
Here’s a list of what has been inspiring me lately:
Ruined Polaroids by William Miller. I’ve been admiring a lot of ambiguous imagery lately, which I suspect is a reflection of the uncertainty looming in the air brought by a global pandemic. I came across this project by New York photographer William Miller who bought a broken polaroid camera and now uses it to create stunning art.
Work Play Balance by Out of Office. Throughout working as a graphic designer, I’ve learned the importance of down time, particularly in the context of nurturing your creativity. Out of Office is a newsletter that reimagines values toward work, balance, and rest. They’re one of my favourite accounts on Instagram right now.
Fashion reels by Dylana Suarez. Speaking of Instagram, I’ve been deep into reels lately. The 15-30 second videos feel like a cheeky sneak peek into the lives and creativity of others. I’m always on the look out for reels that stand out from the trending formats. Dylana Suarez is a creator that makes just that. Her reels always feel elevated and high-fashion.
OG Technicolor Baby Daisy Cup by Mimi Ceramics. Staying at home would be so much better drinking from this beautiful cup, don’t you think?
Quote from The Midnight Library. Although I only rated The Midnight Library by Matt Haig a 3/5 stars, the quote "You don’t have to understand life. You just have to live it” has been a north star for me lately. When I find myself overwhelmed trying to map out the future, I am put at ease by this reminder.
Running Late by Madelynn De La Rosa. Madelynn is one of my favourite content creators. Her photos and videos seem so genuine, kind, and rooted in her values. I love this short video she posted to promote the Adidas Ultraboost.
Float Back to You by Holy Hive. This album has been on non-stop for me ever since I stumbled upon it. Kimberly Portillo writes in Slug Magazine that “[the album is] dreamy as it weaves through the notions of love that I can relate to. It’s indie; it’s rock; it’s folk; it’s soul; it’s warm; it’s comfortable. It’s so many things wrapped up into one and it’s simply a beautiful listen”. I’m certain that this album will help me float through the remaining days of Winter, and into the warm embrace of Spring.
Spring 2021 RTW by A.P.C. . Putting this in here as a mental note to re-create this look in the warmer months.
Blue sequin Chanel Bag. Putting this in here as a mental note to re-create this look when I someday own this Chanel bag. The glimmer of the dark blue sequins against the simple all-white outfit is a dream waiting to come true.
Untitled by Pijama Land. This photo made me stop my scrolling when I came across it. The ambiguity of the scene and the composition make me think of the story behind it. To me, it feels like a group of friends are deep in conversation being vulnerable with each other, intertwining their experiences together.
JH Gothic by J. Hannah. A jewelry company based in LA, J. Hannah is a prime example of a brand that truly values thoughtful design. Their love for art and design seeps out of their products and branding. They recently introduced JH Gothic, created in collaboration with Paris-based type designer Morgane VanTorre. JH Gothic reimagines traditional signet typography — a twist on traditional Gothic script. Absolutely beautiful!
